Some Reno Casino History: Chips for Sale

In 1906, construction began on the Golden Hotel in Reno, Nevada.

At the end of the 1920s, Reno Bank Club opened in Reno, Nevada. The gaming action took place in the Golden Hotel Basement. The richest man in the state, George Wingfield, owned the property.

When casino gaming became legal in 1931, a 5000 square foot gaming floor was created at the hotel. The early games included slots, poker and craps.

In the early 1950s, Thomas Hull, owner of the El Rancho Vegas, acquired the hotel. The establishment would also have connections to the Chicago mafia.

In 1969, the Golden Hotel became Harrah's Hotel after the historic fire in 1962.
