WSOP History, Horseshoe Chips for Sale
With the World Series of Poker's (WSOP) Main Event now going on, we wanted to revisit some of the history of the most famous poker tournament series.
Before the tournament moved to the Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino in 2006, the tournament was known for its historic presence at Binion's Horseshoe in Downtown Las Vegas. It was where players including Doyle Brunson, Stu Ungar, and Phil Hellmuth won the WSOP's Main Event. Since 1972, the tournament has been a $10,000 buy-in.  This year's first-place prize is expected to be $10 Million.
In pop culture history, the 1988 film Rounders, starring Matt Damon, mentions poker player Johnny Chan's 1988 WSOP Main Event victory.  In 2009, Joe Cada became the youngest player to win the World Series of Poker Main Event at 21.
The last Binion's Horseshoe WSOP events took place in 2005. From 2006 to 2019, the events were at the Rio. Today, the WSOP events take place at the Horseshoe Casino and the Paris Las Vegas Hotel and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip.
