Today, the Tropicana Hotel and Casino closed. The resort opened on April 4, 1957. The resort missed celebrating its 67th birthday by two days.

The Tropicana Hotel and Casino's mob history included the Kansas City outfit. Reportedly, they stole $2 million from Las Vegas resorts including the Tropicana.
In pop culture, the movie is mentioned in the 1971 James Bond movie Diamonds are Forever.
Its nickname was the Tiffany of the Strip.
The famed showgirl show Folies Bergere lasted almost 50 years.
In recent years, the resort became a draw for tribute artist shows including Purple Reign, Legends in Concert and MJ Live. There was also nightly comedy shows at The Laugh Factory. Show business legend Rich Little and longtime Las Vegas headliner Murray the Magician had shows there.
