This week, we are continuing our promise by adding new casino chips to the website from our collection. This week, we are adding our entire collection of chips from the Lady Luck Hotel and Casino. The Downtown Las Vegas Casino, which today is where the Downtown Grand is located today, has an interesting history. It was in existence from 1964 to 2006. What finally forced it to close was the beginning of the economic downturn in 2006.
Here are some interesting tidbits from Lady Luck I found while researching this week’s article:
- At one point during its history, they marketed a 49 cents breakfast of eggs and bacon or ham at any time of day. You could get food there 24 hours a day.
- Silver Dollar Slot Jackpots were advertised to draw people in.
- There were several institutions who wanted to keep the Lady Luck going after it closed in 2006. However, those efforts were unsuccessful.
- The Lady Luck is seen in the 1999 Las Vegas movie The Runner starring John Goodman.
- There were plans to re-open the resort as Lady Luck five years after its closing. However, it was instead named to the Downtown Grand. The property went through a reported 100-million-dollar renovation.
- Today, the Downtown Grand is in the middle of a construction project that is going to add a 495-room hotel tower. It will be finished in the middle of 2020. The hotel/resort will then have over 1100 rooms.
