Las Vegas History: Bob Stupak's Vegas World, New Items for Sale

From 1979 to 1995 gambler, poker player and casino executive Bob Stupak lit up the Las Vegas Strip with his Vegas World Hotel and Casino.

The space themed Las Vegas resort offered both 24 hour gambling and 24 hour dining. The hotel consisted of 600 rooms. In a brochure for the resort, Bob Stupak stated, " I want to personally invite you to board our space shuttle and explore the excitement of an all new world ... Vegas World. Have fun." The slogan for the hotel was, "The Sky's The Limit."

Vegas World was the first casino in Las Vegas to offer slot machines with $250,000 and $1 million jackpots. At its height, the casino floor was 80,000 square feet.

Aside from being a casino executive, Mr. Stupak might be most famously known for winning a million dollar bet on the biggest football game of the year in 1989. The bet was placed at the Little Caesars sportsbook. He billed himself as the most famous gambler in the world.

During its existence, Vegas World was featured on 60 Minutes, the Merv Griffin Show and Ripley's Believe it Not.

Vegas World closed in 1995 after a 16 year run. What came next was the Stratosphere Hotel and Casino. Today, it is called The Strat.
